A password is often a variation on a word that's significant to the user. The most effective passwords contain letters, symbols and numbers (an alphanumeric word or phrase), possibly in a random sequence, such as SDAOF3#$5. When you type your password, usually the word will appear on your screen only as asterisks (*******) or Xs (xxxxxxx) to ensure that no one can watch your screen and steal your code.
