FirstMerit BAI2 Differences

Several differences exist between the existing BAI2 format and the FirstMerit e-Connect platform. Both formats comply with the standards developed by the Banking Administration Institute. The FirstMerit e-Connect format condenses the records and allows for a smaller file size.

01 - File Header Record Differences

  • Originating Bank ID will be populated with FirstMerit's routing transit number.
  • Receiving Bank ID will be populated with a numeric value.
  • File ID will be populated with a numeric value.
  • Physical Record Length will be populated.

02 - Group Header Record Differences

  • Ultimate Receiver ID will be populated with FirstMerit's routing transit number
  • Currency Code will default to blank.

03 - Account Identifier and Summary/Status Record Differences

  • Multiple balances will be returned on each 03 record line and 88 continuation lines.
  • Funds type will default to a blank. Previously defaulted to Z.
  • Currency code will default to blank.

16 - Transaction Detail Record

  • Funds type will default to a blank. Previously defaulted to Z.
